First Vote 2007!

SPECIAL REPORT:

Founding Convention of the RIDVP

Thank you to everyone who participated! We had an excellent turnout of one hundred people, all of whom dedicated their time and great ideas for our strategic planning break-out groups. (Also a special thanks to our volunteer facilitators who kept the discussions on track!) The break-out groups each developed a few recommendations which the convention unanimously voted to accept. We decided to approve the 2008 budget and dues structure as recommended by the Steering Committee.

Approved Strategic Plan Recommendations
During the Steering Committee elections, we had our slate of seven, one candidate not in the slate who was nominated before the convention, and a completely unexpected five nominations from the floor! The original candidates all won election, in addition to two of the five who were

nominated from the floor. During the elections, each member organization got to cast one ballot, and the Automark was available for those who chose to use it. The member organizations ratified the by-laws of the RIDVP, 24-0.

We even got some great press coverage in the Warwick Beacon!

Moving forward, we are encouraging everyone to support House Bill 5969 which mandates all statewide candidates who receive public matching funds to use closed captioning for their tv ads. We need to make voting as easy as possible for people by opening up the political process and making sure that everyone has access to the information that they need. Please sign our online petition or print it out and gather some signatures here: (petitions are due back on Monday, April 30th)
