Social Justice Through Opportunity

Justice Resource Institute is one of the nation's most creative and energetic not-for-profit human service corporations.

This Massachusetts based agency's mission is to provide hope and opportunity to children and adults whose physical, emotional or learning related disability requires innovative and specialized support and treatment.

Justice Resource Institute was founded in 1973 when several young leaders in Massachusetts, in response to the problems of deinstitutionalization, organized this unique resource, and dedicated it to working as a partner of government to address the most confounding problems of the rapidly changing justice and human services systems.

At first, Justice Resource Institute served court involved persons, and worked eventually with 26 courts of the Commonwealth to institute intensive probation, alternative sentencing, restitution, and mediation programs.

Over the years, Justice Resource Institute has taken responsibility for solving a broader array of problems of deinstitutionalization. Sequentially, the agency demonstrated, and, now continues to operate, effective programs for: severely developmentally delayed persons with significant medical involvement; mentally ill/behaviorally challenging adolescents; developmentally delayed persons who are both mentally ill and behaviorally challenging; court-involved children and adolescents; persons living with AIDS; and gay, lesbian bisexual, and transgendered youth.

Justice Resource Institute is now one of the largest human services providers in the Commonwealth. Additionally, we are the most diverse. Today, Justice Resource Institute manages a health center and mental health clinic; street youth outreach; court and probation consultative services; residential schools for mentally ill, cognitively limited, developmentally disabled, and behaviorally challenging youngsters and comprehensive services for adult developmentally disabled. Each program is highly expert and broadly known in its field of concentration. Justice Resource Institute serves persons who come to our programs from throughout the United States.
