Who We Are

In 2004, OSARR and PRB consolidated their efforts to form one organization with the intent of combining resources to better serve their members. This union marked the beginning of a new era in organizational collaboration in service to Rhode Island’s developmental disability community. Out of that consolidation was born the Community Provider Network of Rhode Island.

CPNRI continues the work of its predecessor organizations, but with a broader reach across Rhode Island, and more resources. With an expanded membership base, CPN has become a stronger collective voice for all members of the Rhode Island DD community. Public awareness and legislative advocacy have reached new levels of effectiveness under the CPNRI umbrella.

CPNRI now represents twenty-six private providers of services and supports to people with developmental disabilities throughout Rhode Island. Our members offer a wide array of high quality, cost effective services to over 3,500 people statewide.

CPNRI will provide leadership in articulating and imbedding our core values, publicly and in our daily operations, as the key component of the work we do.

CPNRI will actively shape public policy through the effective use of political and marketing tools.

CPNRI will develop strategies to create a strong, educated workforce that will provide stability and long-term viability of the member agencies.

Accomplishments

With 2006 behind us, we would like to take this opportunity to reflect upon the successes of the year and thank our member agencies for their hardwork and commitment to CPNRI. With the combined effort of all our members, we were able to accomplishment many things that strengthened our mission and helped achieve our goals.

Using our collective voices and resources, CPNRI worked relentlessly to hold back deep budget cuts and provide practical input to the state’s Health and Wellness Standards. We continued to lobby at the state house for the causes and concerns of the disability community making our position known on several key issues.

We also worked with our members to provide several training and professional development opportunities such as DSP and managers training, Vocational Assessment training and an entire series on Sexuality and persons with Developmental Disabilities. We partnered with area businesses to help our members grow, providing pandemic planning, grass roots advocacy and best practices workshops.

In an effort to develop even better communication with and between our members, we continued to develop a comprehensive website and e-newsletter, sharing valuable information, articles and news of interest.

2006 also saw the formation of the RI Disability Vote Project. We are committed to affording every citizen in Rhode Island the opportunity to vote. The coming year will mark the projects formation of a steering committee and set its agenda for coming elections.

Finally, we expanded our Group Purchasing Program, designed to help our members get the best value for key products and services, to include cell phone contracts, home heating oil and automotive services to name a few.

We look back on 2006 and the accomplishments of the group and are extremely proud and honored to work with and represent such progressive, dedicated and hardworking agencies.
We look forward to an even more successful 2007.

Strength by Network!
